Tech Pack Development

Footwear Product Development (FASH 912) • Lasell University
The last week of FASH912 with Elizabeth Brock-Jones at Lasell University cumulates in the creation of a Reverse Tech Pack through the dissection of a shoe of choice. The Nike LeBron X was the first time in history that Nike had put a full-length Zoom airbag unit on a shoe, making it so you were quite literally "walking on air". I've always been incredibly curious about how it was built, which made it the perfect subject for this project.
Sneaker deconstruction with help from Glen Downie.
CROSS-SECTION—Lebron X (Volt). Designed by Jason Petrie.
DISSECTED UPPER COMPONENTS—Lebron X (Volt)
DISSECTED TOOLING COMPONENTS—Note the EVA pillars that hold the airbag to the outsole.
REVERSE TECH PACK—Feel free to flip through the tech pack below.
This was a great hands-on opportunity to learn about shoe + air bag construction. The entire process also taught me a lot about the development process through multiple lenses including fit, function, profitability, sustainability, manufacturability, delivering products on time and on design.
